TEHRAN, Sept 9 (NIPNA) – Iran will develop petrochemical projects in deprived provinces under a national land-use plan aimed at achieving balanced and sustainable growth, the head of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said on Tuesday.
Hassan Abbaszadeh, deputy petroleum minister and NPC managing director, said the strategy focuses on completing value chains in line with local climate, resources and regional needs. Speaking at the 19th IranPlast International Exhibition in Tehran, he cited the southeastern province of Kerman as a priority.
Abbaszadeh said two projects in Kerman remain active, including a plant producing EPDM compounds for the automotive industry. Another project, in Jazmourian in southern Kerman, has been handed to a private investor and has shown “promising progress” just six months after receiving its license, he added.
He also announced plans for a sodium cyanide plant to serve the Sar Cheshmeh copper complex, reducing imports and creating high value-added output with minimal water consumption. “This is a small but strategic project that uses natural gas and a limited volume of ammonia, which will later be supplied from the Jazmourian plant,” Abbaszadeh said.
Other projects under study include coal-based petrochemical production to tap into Kerman’s local resources. Abbaszadeh stressed that each province’s projects will align with its economic and environmental profile under the government’s strategic roadmap.
He noted parliament’s industry and mining committee has shown strong support for the initiatives, calling the cooperation a “major contribution to regional development.”
