Shahbaz Hassanpour, a member of parliament’s
industry and mining committee representing Kerman and Ravar, praised the
performance of the Ministry of Petroleum under President Ebrahim Raisi’s
administration, saying it had delivered “the best results despite challenges.”
Speaking during a visit to the 19th IranPlast
International Exhibition in Tehran, Hassanpour said Iran’s petrochemical sector
has proven resilient under sanctions and retains strong potential in producing
final goods for both domestic and export markets.
“Iran has a high capacity in petrochemicals,
particularly in downstream products, and many regional markets are eager to use
our goods,” he said. “Future exhibitions abroad could help showcase these
capabilities and strengthen competition with other countries.”
Hassanpour stressed that exports should be
prioritized once domestic demand is met and that products must meet global
standards while research and development activity should expand. He also called
for greater involvement of the private sector under Article 44 of the
constitution, which promotes privatization.
Parliament will back any legislation needed to
support the industry, he said. “There are no legal barriers for domestic
producers. With coordination between government and parliament, we are
witnessing one of the golden periods of cooperation, and we hope its results
will reach the people’s livelihoods,” Hassanpour added.
