TEHRAN, Sept 9 (NIPNA) – Packaging is a critical factor in exporting Iran’s petrochemical products and must align with global standards, experts said on Tuesday at the 19th IranPlast International Exhibition in Tehran.

Afshin Fakhr, CEO of the Iran Packaging Institute, emphasized during a specialized session that diverse petrochemical products require standardized packaging to ensure safe transport, accurate labeling, and market readiness. “With daily technological advancements and mass production, distributing petrochemical products without proper packaging is no longer feasible,” he said.
Fakhr outlined four key factors influencing packaging design: economic, technical, legal, and cultural. Economic considerations include production scale and market competitiveness; technical aspects cover rapid technological changes and logistics; legal factors involve production licenses and environmental regulations; and cultural aspects account for consumer preferences, education, and delivery methods.
He also highlighted the growing adoption of smart packaging solutions in the petrochemical sector, capable of monitoring storage conditions, temperature, and product shelf-life while communicating critical information to end-users.
The Iran Packaging Institute, the country’s sole representative in the World Packaging Organization and the Asian Packaging Federation, seeks to enhance domestic packaging capabilities and expand Iran’s share in regional and global markets. The institute’s vision includes positioning Iran as a leading packaging power in Asia by 2030.
The 19th IranPlast exhibition, featuring over 700 Iranian and 67 foreign companies, continues through Thursday at Tehran’s Permanent International Fairground, offering workshops, technical panels, and B2B opportunities for industry professionals.
