MAHSHAHR (NIPNA) -- The head of Iran’s Petrochemical Special Economic Zone (PETZONE) said that 118 coordinated safety and security measures were successfully implemented during a recent 12-day emergency period, reinforcing the zone’s resilience amid heightened regional tensions.

Mohammadreza Moteyri, Managing Director of PETZONE and the zone’s top commander for civil defense and crisis management, praised the swift and unified response of petrochemical companies in the area following attacks attributed to Israel.

He emphasized that early coordination among company executives was key to minimizing risks to vital infrastructure and surrounding communities.

“In the first hours of the incident, all CEOs went on high alert, and the regional emergency and crisis committee began operations immediately,” Moteyri said at a high-level meeting attended by the Deputy Petroleum Minister, energy officials, and company heads.

He noted that the 118 emergency decisions were enacted to ensure safety across the industry, including measures to protect personnel, safeguard infrastructure, and support local communities.

Moteyri also commended the role of operational staff, security units, emergency patrols, and local volunteer forces. “Their dedication and accountability were instrumental in maintaining control over the zone during critical moments,” he added.

Reflecting on the experience, Moteyri highlighted the importance of structural preparedness and national unity. “This crisis once again reminded us of the value of collective action in facing adversity. With enhanced readiness, we aim to prevent future threats to our nation,” he said.

The session was part of a broader review of emergency operations and aimed at strengthening strategic coordination among key stakeholders in Iran’s vital petrochemical sector.
