Ali Rabbani, director of energy consumption optimization at the
National Petrochemical Company (NPC), said the system was introduced during the
third meeting of the specialized energy working group for olefin complexes,
held on Sunday.
Participants at the meeting called for a move away from traditional
approaches to energy management toward a more systematic and intelligent model,
according to Rabbani.
Energy consumption has become an increasingly important cost and
operational issue for petrochemical producers, with gas and electricity
accounting for a significant share of production costs. The meeting examined
opportunities to reduce consumption, improve equipment and process efficiency,
continuously monitor energy-performance indicators and apply successful
practices developed by olefin complexes.
Rabbani said higher energy efficiency would not only reduce production
costs but also improve the industry's ability to withstand periods of
constrained gas and electricity supplies.
Data-Driven Management
Olefin complexes have already made progress in meeting energy-consumption
benchmarks, with 89% compliance reported across the sector, Rabbani
said.
The next step is to strengthen cooperation among energy managers at
individual complexes and turn consumption data into a basis for management
decisions, he said.
"Energy management must move beyond reporting consumption toward
performance management and value creation," Rabbani said, calling on
olefin producers to prioritize economically viable efficiency projects, reduce
energy intensity and make maximum use of existing opportunities for savings.
The integrated monitoring platform is intended to provide a common
framework for tracking energy consumption and performance across petrochemical
facilities, potentially allowing management teams to identify inefficiencies
and prioritize investments based on operational data.
Technology and Investment
The meeting also highlighted the technical and operational
capabilities of the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company in
identifying, designing and implementing energy-efficiency projects.
Rabbani said the company's expertise could play a significant role in
helping petrochemical complexes develop and execute projects aimed at reducing
energy consumption.
For an industry facing persistent pressure on energy availability, the
emphasis on monitoring and efficiency represents a shift from short-term
consumption control toward more systematic management of energy intensity.
The growing interest among olefin producers in the NPC platform could
therefore provide the foundation for a more integrated approach to energy
management across Iran's petrochemical sector, linking operational data with
investment decisions and efficiency targets.
