“With rising residential consumption in cold months, gas allocations
to petrochemicals are adjusted, but this is done in coordination with the
National Petrochemical Company (NPC) and the regulator so that industry
operations are not halted,” said Saeed Tavakoli, NIGC’s managing director, at a
press briefing ahead of Government Week.
He said petrochemical plants manage consumption based on allocated
volumes and often schedule maintenance accordingly, adding that such
flexibility has helped maintain network stability even during peak household
demand.
Tavakoli noted that NIGC can intervene directly if needed to guarantee
supplies to industrial and petrochemical units. “Our goal is to provide
reliable energy for households while ensuring industry continues with minimal
disruption,” he said.
The official credited integrated planning at the Petroleum Ministry
for strengthening winter preparedness, citing earlier-than-usual coordination
meetings and stockpiling of liquid fuel reserves.
