The Mahshahr Environmental Education Center and Museum Garden is
designed to strengthen environmental education and public awareness in one of
Iran’s major petrochemical hubs, where industrial development and environmental
management remain closely linked.
Construction of the project began in 2016. The building was completed
and formally opened in 2021 without the equipment required for full operation.
The latest investment has funded the completion of equipment and
infrastructure, allowing the facility to become fully operational during this
year’s Government Week.
The current complex occupies 2.8 hectares and includes about 2,000
square meters of built space across two floors. The overall master plan
envisages a 13.8-hectare environmental education and museum garden complex.
Petrochemical Companies Finance the Project
Several petrochemical companies in the Petrochemical Special Economic
Zone have contributed to the project, reflecting the sector’s broader
social-responsibility commitments in the Mahshahr area.
Maroon Petrochemical provided 30% of the funding for construction of
the education center, while Laleh Petrochemical contributed another 30% and
Novid Zar Shimi Petrochemical supplied the remaining 40%.
Other companies supported specific parts of the project. Amir Kabir
Petrochemical contributed to construction of the administrative complex’s
perimeter wall, while Seraj Gostaran Rejal worked on landscaping and
green-space development behind the building.
Arvand Petrochemical supplied equipment, and Bandar Imam Petrochemical
contributed to equipment purchases and the design of the education center.
Ghadir Petrochemical installed the facility’s security-camera system, while
Shimisazan Pasargad Petrochemical participated in developing green spaces.
Environmental Education as a Long-Term Investment
The opening of the facility adds a new layer to the region’s
environmental infrastructure, with its focus extending beyond physical
investment to education and public participation.
The center is expected to provide a venue for environmental training,
public awareness programs and initiatives aimed at increasing community
participation in environmental protection.
For Mahshahr, where a large concentration of petrochemical facilities
operates, the project also illustrates how corporate social-responsibility spending
is increasingly being directed toward longer-term community infrastructure
rather than solely short-term local projects.
The facility’s development reflects a broader effort to strengthen the
relationship between industrial activity and environmental stewardship, while
creating an institutional platform for environmental education in one of Iran’s
most important petrochemical regions.
