TEHRAN, Feb 17 (NIPNA) - Iran's parliament supports efforts to expand the petrochemical industry's value chain to curb raw material exports, the deputy head of its energy committee said on Tuesday, praising the oil ministry's achievements under the current administration.

Farhad Shahraki highlighted the activation of private sector capacities and the revival of semi-idle or halted facilities in the petrochemical value chain as key accomplishments of the 14th government's oil ministry, aimed at balanced development.

"The growth in exports of oil products and derivatives, activation of private sector capacities in the oil value chain, improvement of the country's gas balance through increased production and reduced energy waste, as well as efforts to complete the petrochemical value chain, can be considered among the important achievements of the 14th government's oil ministry," Shahraki told NIPNA, the petrochemical news agency.

He noted that despite restrictions, sustained exports of oil and petrochemical products had positively impacted Iran's foreign currency balance. Shahraki also credited the ministry with reviving upstream and midstream oil and gas capacities using domestic resources and active energy diplomacy.

Outlining priorities for the oil sector, Shahraki emphasized strategic focuses including the development of shared fields, boosting recovery rates, optimizing gas balances, collecting and economically utilizing flare gases, completing the petrochemical value chain, constructing petro-refineries, and expanding energy diplomacy for targeted exports and investment attraction.
