Speaking at a meeting on energy supply and consumption management,
Pezeshkian stressed the need for stable energy provision and the strengthening
of fuel reserves, praising the coordination among the Interior Ministry, the
Oil Ministry, the Energy Ministry and provincial governors.
“The foremost concern for the government is maintaining stability in
energy supply so that the cold season can be passed without even the smallest
problem for the people,” he said, according to the presidency’s website.
Pezeshkian said all policy decisions must take into account their
impact on public health and livelihoods, adding that the government was highly
sensitive to the social consequences of energy management choices.
He pointed to what he described as unprecedented efforts by his
administration to expand renewable energy production, saying multiple meetings
had been held to accelerate the development of clean energy.
Until renewable energy targets are fully achieved, managing energy
imbalances remains unavoidable, he said, adding that such management must
prevent harm to the environment, avoid gas and electricity outages for
households in winter and ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to industry.
Pezeshkian issued four priority orders, including the rapid return to
operation of power plants shut down for environmental reasons, in coordination
with the judiciary, with a report due to the cabinet within a week. He also
instructed provincial authorities to cut gas supplies to non-essential
buildings to prevent energy waste.
Other directives included ensuring adequate fuel supply and storage
for power plants and industry, and requiring government offices to strictly
curb excess energy consumption and prioritise conservation measures.
Pezeshkian welcomed what he described as strong coordination among the
heads of government branches, thanking the judiciary chief and parliament
speaker for their cooperation. He said such coordination would help minimise
energy challenges in both the coming winter and summer.
Attorney General Mohammad Movahedi Azad, who attended the meeting,
said the judiciary fully supported the government’s efforts and was ready to
provide legal backing to address national challenges.
Senior officials from relevant ministries, environmental authorities
and governors of major cities also attended the meeting, where fuel reserve
levels and energy storage measures were reviewed.
