TEHRAN (NIPNA) — Iran’s petrochemical industry is playing a growing role in strengthening the country’s pharmaceutical value chain, a senior industry official said on Tuesday, as the country looks to boost domestic drug production and attract investment in raw material supply.

Faramarz Ekhteraei, Chairman of the Syndicate of Pharmaceutical Raw Material Producers, formally praised the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) during the opening ceremony of the 7th Pharmex International Exhibition in Tehran. He presented a plaque of appreciation to NPC for its contribution to the sector’s strategic integration.

The commendation, addressed to Hassan Abbaszadeh, Deputy Petroleum Minister and CEO of NPC, was received on his behalf by Mohammad Motaghi, Director of Downstream Industries Development.

Pharmex, organized by the Syndicate of Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Packaging Raw Materials in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration of Iran, has emerged as a key industry event. The exhibition aims to foster collaboration among key players and unlock new growth opportunities for domestic pharmaceutical firms.

According to industry estimates, Iran ranks seventh globally in the production of biopharmaceuticals and tenth in overall pharmaceutical output. The country currently manufactures all essential drugs and operates over 100 active production lines.

Despite this progress, officials say Iran’s vast potential in the production of raw pharmaceutical ingredients remains underutilized. Pharmex seeks to bridge this gap by creating investment opportunities and promoting local capabilities.

The exhibition has drawn significant interest from industry players and investors, underscoring growing momentum for deeper integration between Iran’s petrochemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
