TEHRAN, November 7 (NIPNA) – Iran’s petrochemical industry is pursuing projects to optimize gas consumption both within the sector and in other areas, as part of efforts to secure supplies for industrial production, Deputy Petroleum Minister and National Petrochemical Company (NPC) CEO Omid Shakeri said.

Speaking about the “Nabz Energy” campaign, Shakeri said an agreement for the campaign’s third year of implementation had been signed this year between NPC and petrochemical companies Shiraz and Pardis.

He noted that the petrochemical industry is among the country’s vital industries because of its reliance on a steady supply of feedstock, adding that reducing gas consumption in other sectors could help ensure uninterrupted production at petrochemical plants.

One of the campaign’s main objectives is to encourage households to reduce gas consumption through simple measures that do not compromise their comfort, thereby making more gas available to industry and helping sustain production, Shakeri said.

Successful implementation of gas-efficiency projects could contribute to higher gross domestic product and generate benefits that extend to citizens across the country, he added.

Shakeri described continued petrochemical production as strategically important, noting that the sector’s products are closely linked to people’s daily lives and that pension funds, as shareholders in petrochemical companies, also benefit from uninterrupted operations.

He said the government and the president had emphasized the importance of energy conservation and encouraging households to save more energy so that greater supplies could be allocated to industrial activities, including petrochemical production.

Shakeri expressed hope that coordination within the Petroleum Ministry between NPC and the National Iranian Gas Company, together with the participation of other organizations and non-governmental organizations, would help achieve the campaign’s targets and sustain petrochemical production.

More than 520,000 subscribers have registered for the Nabz Energy campaign so far. More than 120 billion rials generated through managed gas consumption have been allocated to charitable and public-benefit activities, while cash prizes and energy-related equipment worth about 2.5 trillion rials have been awarded to participants.

The campaign’s third year is expected to offer 6 trillion rials in incentive prizes. Members of the public can participate by registering at nabzenergy.ir.
