TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Arvand Petrochemical Company has begun operating a domestically developed CO₂ online analyzer in its chlor-alkali unit, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and reduce energy consumption, the company said on Tuesday.

The analyzer, developed by Iranian tech firms ArmadPars and Binab Sanjesh Damavand, utilizes tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) to deliver real-time, high-precision monitoring of carbon dioxide levels.

According to Arvand’s technical team, the presence of CO in the brine solution lowers pH levels, causes scaling, accelerates corrosion, and ultimately impairs equipment efficiency. The implementation of the analyzer has significantly reduced scaling, improved electrolysis efficiency, and cut the use of energy and chemicals.

The system was designed and built in under six months and features a durable Hastelloy body and a Fused Silica window, offering high accuracy and rapid response times. It is regarded as a viable replacement for imported gas chromatography (GC) systems, eliminating the need for carrier gases and specialized operators.

The initiative marks a broader push by Iran’s petrochemical sector to localize advanced instrumentation and reduce dependency on foreign technology, particularly amid ongoing international sanctions.
