Iran Eyes 5mt/y Growth in Petchem Output of Mahshahr Petzone

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran is building 9 new petrochemical plants at Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Energy Zone (Petzone), located in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, which will add 5 million tons per year of output to the country’s annual petrochemical production capacity.

Speaking to NIPNA, Omid Shahidinia, CEO of the petzone, said, so far in the current calendar year which began on March 21, 12 letters of intent have been signed for developing downstream projects in the zone.

The projects will supply items used in the propylene and methanol chains and are planned to come online within the next three years with an investment of $2.5 billion, creating 1,700 jobs, the official added.

He further said that 27 projects are under construction in the petzone with $1.7 billion of investment and expected to create 2.500 jobs.
