TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- This calendar year (which began on March 20) marks the commencement of operations for Iran's third petrochemical hub, according to the CEO of Negine Makran Petrochemical Development Company.

Speaking at a "Specialized Meeting of Senior Managers in the Petrochemical Industry with the Aim of Achieving a Production Surge with People's Participation," Alireza Moniri Abiyaneh highlighted the significance of the petrochemical sector, especially in the context of Iran's economic goals.

"The slogans designated by the esteemed leadership in different years have primarily focused on economic matters and the central issue of production, underscoring the importance of the production sector," stated Abiyaneh.

He emphasized the necessity for government facilitation in attracting investments and boosting production. Drawing a comparison with Oman, where oil feedstock is allocated for free to foster investment and production development, he urged similar measures in Iran.

Abiyaneh noted the establishment of Iran's third petrochemical hub in the Chabahar region since 2011, highlighting the substantial investments of 8 billion euros in the area, largely from the private sector and investment funds.

He also mentioned the pioneering implementation of the Methanol to Olefins (MTO) project in this hub, showcasing a 20% progress rate.

"In this significant development, two methanol units are expected to enter pre-production by the end of this year, alongside the launch of utility units," Abiyaneh declared.

Highlighting the hub's employment opportunities, Abiyaneh noted that over 5,000 individuals are currently employed in Iran's third petrochemical hub, with half of them being locals from the region.

The specialized meeting aimed at achieving a production surge with public participation was held today (Sunday, April 7, 2024) with the presence of Morteza Shahmirzaei, Deputy Minister of Petroleum, and CEOs of petrochemical holdings and companies, along with managers of several petrochemical projects. The meeting, hosted by the production control management of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), addressed the programs and concerns of companies to achieve the slogan of the year.
