TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Sahand University of Technology has successfully developed nano-catalysts used in production of light olefins from methanol.

Use of the catalysts can increase efficiency of light olefin production from methanol.

A member of the scientific board of the university said the project was aimed at indigenization of the product given its wide usage in petrochemical industries.

Iran is producing huge amounts of methanol and the use of such catalysts will help it concert methanol into more value added items like olefins.

Iran is a big importer of different olefins and these catalysts will be a great help to render Iran needless of importing olefins.
