TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh says phase II of Kavian Petrochemical Plant is ready for official inauguration to supply 1.1 million tons of ethylene annually.

Speaking in a televised interview, the official said the current year will be remembered as a golden year for the petrochemical industry as dozens of projects came online during the year.

He said Lorestan Polyethylene Plant and Mahabad Polyethylene Plant both with 330,000 tons of annual production capacity have come on-stream during the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 20. Both of these projects are fed by West Ethylene Pipeline.

Kavian Petrochemical Plant is the supplier of ethylene to the pipeline after it transforms South Pars ethane into ethylene for feeding 12 petrochemical projects in western provinces of the country.

So far Urmia Acid Sulfuric Plant, Marvdasht Martyrs Urea and Ammonia Unit, Takht Jamshid Petrochemical Plant, Entekhab Polystyrene Plant, and Phase II of Karoon Petrochemical Plant have come on-stream this year and Morvarid Ethylene Glycol Unit, Phase III of Pardis Petrochemical Plant and Kaveh Mechanol megaproject are ready for official inauguration, the official added.

Once fully operational, these facilities will add 9 million tons to the country’s total petrochemical output. Iran’s current petrochemical production capacity stands at 64 million tons per year.
