NPC Inks Deal with Indonesian Firm for Petchem Cooperation

TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran’ National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an Indonesian company for investment in several petrochemical projects in Iran.

 

The deal was signed on Wednesday between the NPC and the Indonesian company in Tehran. 

Speaking to NIPNA on the sidelines of the deal’s signing ceremony, Hussein Alimorad, NPC’s director of investment, said the deal concerns appraisal studies by the Indonesian company and its direct investment in 4 petrochemical projects in Iran.

He said the company will directly invest in at least one or two of the projects after its studies are finished. 

The official said the company is seeking to invest in Chabahar Port in the Sea of Oman and it will conduct studies on how the investment would be.

Iran and Indonesia on Wednesday signed five cooperation documents in various fields including energy, Shana reported. 

Iranian Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian and Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan signed a deal to promote cooperation in fields of electricity and renewable energies.

The Iranian officials and their Indonesian counterparts signed also cooperation documents for increase of relations in fields of banking, stock exchange, energy, industry and food.

Indonesia plans to increase crude oil import from Iran and has signed a cooperation document with Iran in this regard.

Oil, gas and petrochemistry are major topics of economic discussions between Iranian and Indonesian officials during the Indonesian president visit to Iran.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo was officially welcomed by President Hassan Rouhani at Saadabad Cultural Complex in North of Tehran on Wednesday.

Widodo, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Tehran on December 13 to confer with Iranian senior officials.

The trip aims at boosting cooperation in oil and gas management and investment on refineries in Iran.

Indonesian president has also met Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

Widodo's trip is a response to President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Indonesia last year.

President Rouhani had a tour to Indonesia last year and met Indonesian officials to develop bilateral cooperation.
