Petchem Industry in Need of Support to Function Best: APIC Chief

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Head of Iran's Association of Petrochemical Industry Corporation (APIC) Ahmad Mahdavi Abhari says Iran’s petrochemical industry is developing and needs support in order to fulfill its role as a key economic lever.

 

Addressing a joint press conference with executives of three leading petrochemical facilities in Iran (Jam, Arya Sasol and Maroon), Abhari underlined the significance of the petrochemical industry in materializing economic growth in the country. 

“The chief focus of the Resilience Economy is betterment of the business environment by the administration,” he said. “Therefore, the private sector would need more state support in order to maintain the status quo and enhance its activities.” 

He said the petrochemical industry is one of the leading sectors affecting the economy in Iran by generation value-added items. 

“Today, the world relies of the industry in such a way that one can say that the fate of the world’s economy depends on the petrochemical industry,’ he added. 

Abhari said countries like Germany, where no feedstock can be found for feeding petrochemical facilities, as much as $76.5 billion was generated only in its petrochemical sector in 2016. 

He said such examples make is necessary for Iran to come up with a clear vision of what it is going to do in the sector in the future.
