Iran Eyes 65mt/y of Petchem Exports by 2020: CEO

TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Managing Director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marzieh Shahdaei says Iran's petrochemical exports will cross 65 million tons per year from the current level of 19.1mt/y by 2020.

 

Addressing the 2nd Iranian Petroleum and Energy Club Congress & Exhibition (IEPC 2016) in Tehran on Tuesday, Marziyeh Shahdaei, who is also deputy petroleum minister in petrochemical affairs, said Iran is the second most important country in the region economically. 

She said easy access to huge oil and gas reserves are among the country's petrochemical advantages for potential investors in the sector. 

The official said that Iran targets an 8% economic growth the end of the 6th five-year Economic Development Plan and said to this end, Iranian oil industry can play an effective role.

Iran's current petrochemical production capacity stands at 63 million tons a year and the capacity should rise up to 130 million tons by 2020 and 180 million tons by 2025, she added.

Shahdaei said petrochemical activities are going on in Parsian, Lavan and Qeshm islands, Jask and Chabahar and licenses will be issued for petrochemical activities in other suitable regions. 

Iran has defined 50 petrochemical development projects which would require at least 30 billion dollars to be implemented, she further said.
