TEHRAN (NIPNA) — In a notable move to advance corporate social responsibility, Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC) dedicated part of its exhibition space at the 29th International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition to raising awareness about autism.

According to PGPIC, the initiative marked the first-ever presence of the Autism Association at this high-profile industry event. The aim was to promote public understanding, attract charitable support, and identify and assist families with children on the autism spectrum, who often face significant financial burdens.

The booth drew the attention of many visitors, with a considerable number approaching to ask questions and clarify long-held misconceptions about the condition. This provided an important platform for educating the public on how to better interact with individuals and families affected by autism.

Promoting Awareness Through CSR

PGPIC stated that this initiative aligns with its corporate social responsibility goals, especially in response to the rapid rise in autism diagnoses in recent years. The positive feedback received in the first two days of the exhibition has encouraged the group to consider similar awareness activities at future events.

Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain functions, particularly in areas related to communication and social interaction. Symptoms often emerge before the age of three and include difficulty in verbal and nonverbal communication, repetitive behaviors, and restricted interests. Statistics show that approximately 1 in 100 children may be affected.

Importantly, autism is not a disease and has no definitive medical cure. However, with proper rehabilitation, education, and support, individuals with ASD can develop skills to improve their quality of life.
