TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A member of the Iranian parliament highlighted the necessity of developing the petrochemicals industry by attracting fresh investment in the sector.

Abdollah Sameri, who is also a member of the parliament’s energy committee, said: “The petrochemicals industry leads Iran’s non-oil exports and its development must be assisted by attracting fresh finances.”

He asserted that Iran’s oil income had increased, adding the sanctions, more than inflicting damage on Iran, had harmed the US.

“Despite the fact that a number of countries have dishonored their promises to Iran, the country has managed to find new customers for its oil and petrochemicals,” the MP added.

“It is a fact that Iran’s oil revenues have increased, and the US sanctions on Iran’s are one-sided and not endorsed by the world.”

Sameri further said that petrochemical firms contributed greatly to generation of hard currency in Iran’s economy while creating jobs and weaning the economy off export of crude oil and gas.
