TEHRAN, Nov. 1 (NIPNA) – The Iranian government supports the Petroleum Ministry’s plans to manage energy consumption ahead of the coming winter, including efforts to optimize gas and fuel use and reorganize the fuel card system, government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said.

Speaking on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the 84th meeting of the Government Communications Coordination Council, hosted by the Petroleum Ministry, Mohajerani stressed the need for coordinated action to manage energy consumption during the winter months.

She said the government would work alongside the ministry to implement plans aimed at improving the efficiency of gas and fuel consumption.

Mohajerani praised Acting Petroleum Minister Hamid Bovard and ministry employees, describing Bovard as an experienced industry professional with a strong understanding of the sector. She added that taking responsibility under the country’s current circumstances was particularly challenging.

On fuel management, she said measures concerning gasoline consumption and the organization of fuel use were being pursued in cooperation with the Plan and Budget Organization, the first vice president and the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company.

She also highlighted the work of the Article 8 Working Group on reorganizing fuel cards, particularly those used at filling stations, and called for continued follow-up on the measures.

Regarding natural gas consumption, Mohajerani said the government would use all available means to encourage more efficient energy use across society without creating social tensions.

She stressed that decisions made by the Petroleum Ministry on energy consumption management represented government policy, adding that all government bodies would support the ministry in implementing its plans and addressing the challenges ahead.
