TEHRAN, August 19 (NIPNA) – Specialist media can play a greater role in highlighting technological advances in Iran’s oil industry, documenting domestic capabilities and helping shape more informed debate over the country’s energy future, according to the head of the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI).

Azim Kalantari-Asl said specialized media could help build public confidence by accurately communicating the capabilities and operational experience of Iranian oil-industry specialists, while also encouraging more informed public demand for progress.

Speaking Monday at an event honoring oil-industry media professionals hosted by the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry, Kalantari-Asl called for closer ties between research organizations and the media.

Technology development in the oil industry is complex and requires careful integration of different capabilities, he said, adding that effective media coverage could help communicate those achievements and strengthen public confidence in domestic expertise.

The institute is prepared to work with the Petroleum Ministry’s public-relations department on a two-year joint program to document and communicate technological achievements across the industry, Kalantari-Asl said.

Documenting operational know-how

Kalantari-Asl also stressed the importance of documenting operational experience, citing international studies indicating that a significant share of technologies used in the upstream oil industry has emerged from companies’ practical experience.

Such knowledge should be systematically recorded and transferred, he said, highlighting the role specialist media can play in making technical experience more accessible.

The institute’s chief also pointed to the energy transition and the long-term future of Iran’s oil industry. Research organizations and policymakers need to develop strategies for addressing major energy challenges and optimizing the use of the country’s hydrocarbon reserves over the coming decades, he said.

Specialist and educational media can contribute to that process by explaining strategic energy issues and supporting better-informed policymaking, Kalantari-Asl said.

The Research Institute of Petroleum Industry is prepared to host specialized industry and media events, he added, saying the goal is to facilitate knowledge transfer, document operational experience and encourage informed public engagement with the country’s energy challenges.
