T$ehran, Dec 26 (NIPNA) – Iran’s petrochemical sector has shown strong performance in implementing process safety management (PSM) systems, officials said on Thursday, highlighting the importance of expanding safety practices across the wider oil industry.

At a two-day specialized gathering of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) managers from the petrochemical industry, the director general of HSE at the Ministry of Petroleum noted that the event aimed to focus on safety, firefighting, health, environmental protection, and passive defense, while promoting a strategic approach to HSE in petrochemical holdings and companies.

“The proactive steps taken by petrochemical companies in establishing process safety management systems are highly valuable and should serve as a model for other sectors in the oil industry,” he said. He also emphasized the need to optimize human resources and secure financial support to equip and modernize company firefighting stations.

The head of HSE at the National Petrochemical Company underlined the importance of shifting the perspective on HSE from a compliance-driven approach to one that is value-oriented. “Moving from a compliance and priority-based mindset to a value-driven approach is essential. This shift supports organizational growth, safeguards human and financial capital, enhances company credibility, and facilitates high-level decision-making,” he said.

The conference included sessions on large-scale safety and firefighting projects, discussions on the latest global safety approaches, industrial incident analysis, and interactive Q&A sessions with university professors and industry experts.

The two-day HSE managers’ gathering took place from Dec. 23–24, with participation from ministry and company HSE directors and managers across Iran’s petrochemical sector.
