BUSHEHR (NIPNA) - A fire that broke out on a barge docked at the Kaveh Methanol Petrochemical jetty in Dayyer Port has been brought under control, according to local authorities.

Korosh Dehghan, Director General of the Crisis Management Office at Bushehr Province Governorate, stated that the fire was extinguished through the efforts of firefighting teams from Dayyer city, the Port Authority, and Kangan County.

"The incident has unfortunately resulted in three fatalities and two injuries. The injured individuals are currently hospitalized and receiving medical treatment," Dehghan confirmed.

The fire reportedly originated during welding operations on the docked cargo barge. Dehghan attributed the cause to negligence and lack of safety precautions by the welding crew. He added that cooling operations are still underway at the site to prevent reignition.

Ehsan Izadpanah, Head of the Bushehr Red Crescent Society, confirmed the death toll and noted that two individuals remain trapped inside the barge. “Given the critical conditions, the number of casualties may rise,” he warned.

Izadpanah further reported that initial emergency assessments indicated a total of seven people were affected by the incident. Of these, two injured individuals have been transferred to medical centers by EMS units.

Emergency response operations continue with the presence of firefighting and Red Crescent rescue teams at the scene. The Red Crescent has deployed one ambulance and two off-road vehicles to assist with the ongoing rescue efforts.
