TEHRAN, Oct. 3 (NIPNA) — Iran’s petrochemical industry needs greater private-sector participation to support development and streamline its operations, National Petrochemical Company (NPC) CEO Omid Shakeri said.

Speaking at a meeting with members of the board of directors of the Iranian Oil Association, Shakeri stressed the importance of private-sector involvement in petrochemical development and called cooperation with professional associations and industry organizations essential.

“Redefining processes and facilitating the affairs of the petrochemical industry requires making greater use of the capacities of the private sector,” Shakeri said.

Members of the Iranian Oil Association’s board emphasized the need to integrate the capabilities of exploration and production companies to play a more effective role in supplying the gas required by the petrochemical industry. They also called for avoiding sector-specific approaches in decision-making.

The meeting also addressed the use of private-sector technical and executive expertise in resolving petrochemical industry challenges and supporting decision-making processes.

Other issues discussed included technology development, strengthening human resources, feedstock security, accelerating the customs clearance of goods held at customs and managing damaged production units.

The participants also highlighted the role of the Iranian Oil Association as a specialized platform for supporting decision-making and providing expert solutions to NPC, stressing the need to continue and expand cooperation between the association and the petrochemical industry.

The meeting between Shakeri and the Iranian Oil Association’s board was held at NPC headquarters to explore ways to strengthen cooperation among the petrochemical industry, the private sector and professional industry associations.
