TEHRAN, July 29 (NIPNA) — Sabalan Petrochemical Company’s 10,000-tonne methanol storage facility has been officially listed on the Iran Energy Exchange (IEX), establishing a standardized physical framework for energy warehouse receipts and commodity certificate trading.

The approval, announced on Tuesday by parent holding company Petrofarhang, aims to enhance market transparency, optimize spot market logistics, and expand financial trading instruments across Iran's petrochemical value chain.

Mechanism and Financial Implications

The listing allows institutional buyers and capital market participants to trade Grade-AA methanol directly via IEX Energy Warehouse Certificates under official regulatory oversight.

  • Enhanced Liquidity: Converts physical chemical storage into negotiable capital market instruments, improving product turnover and pricing efficiency.
  • Cost Reduction: Streamlines settlement mechanisms and lowers counterparty transaction costs for domestic and international trade partners.
  • Logistical Efficiency: Facilitates standardized off-take schedules directly from Sabalan’s storage infrastructure.

Production Capacity Context

Sabalan Petrochemical, operating under Petrofarhang Holding, is one of Iran’s premier chemical producers with a combined two-phase design capacity of 3.3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMtpa) of Grade-AA methanol.
