TEHRAN, July 18 (NIPNA) — The Iranian Parliament’s Energy Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to providing robust legislative backing for the petrochemical sector, designating the industry as a primary engine for national economic resilience and down-stream industrial self-sufficiency.

Mohammad Bahrami, a senior member of the parliamentary Energy Committee, emphasized in a statement on Wednesday that the state’s overarching policy frameworks—including the national strategic guidelines for economic insulation—explicitly mandate the expansion of petrochemical production to mitigate the vulnerability of state revenues to raw crude oil volatility.

Value Chain Integration

Bahrami highlighted that the strategic importance of the petrochemical sector to Iran's broader economy is second only to the upstream oil sector, noting that nearly all modern domestic manufacturing industries rely heavily on petrochemical feedstocks and their downstream derivatives.

"This locomotive industry must leverage its full operational capacity to complete the domestic value chain, manufacture finalized end-products, and fully satisfy the supply requirements of our domestic manufacturing base," Bahrami stated.

Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Market Stabilization

The lawmaker provided updates on the ongoing technical recovery of industrial complexes affected during recent regional military flare-ups, which he referred to as the "Third Imposed War".

  • Rapid Infrastructure Recovery: Bahrami praised the around-the-clock mobilization of domestic engineers and energy specialists who successfully rehabilitated a significant portion of damaged production capacities in a short timeframe.
  • Market Stabilization: The swift return of affected facilities to the national grid has successfully restored stability to the domestic chemical and polymer supply markets.

Geopolitical Supply Advantages

The Energy Committee member concluded by noting that Iran retains a significant competitive edge in the global petrochemical landscape due to its unique geographic positioning and vast natural gas reserves.

Parliament plans to leverage these spatial and logistical advantages to expand localized processing networks, expand supplementary industries, and increase high-value exports to regional and international markets.
