TEHRAN, June 02 (NIPNA) – Addressing energy supply-demand imbalances requires stronger consumption management and efficiency measures alongside production capacity development, a member of Iran’s Parliament said, highlighting the role of public participation initiatives in supporting national energy objectives.

Mostafa Pourdehghan, a member of the presiding board of the Parliament’s Industries and Mines Commission, said the “Nabz-e Energy” campaign has helped transform citizens from passive consumers into active participants in energy management efforts.

“In a situation where the country faces imbalances in natural gas and electricity supply and demand, solutions cannot rely solely on expanding production infrastructure,” Pourdehghan said. “Consumption management and efficiency improvements are equally important, and the experience of this campaign has demonstrated that potential.”

He noted that energy savings in the residential sector can contribute to greater supply stability for industrial and manufacturing facilities, which require reliable access to energy to support production, employment, and investment activities.

According to Pourdehghan, one of the initiative’s key strengths is its incentive-based approach, which encourages voluntary participation rather than relying on restrictive measures. He said experiences have shown that programs delivering tangible benefits from energy savings to participants tend to achieve more durable and effective results.

The lawmaker added that Parliament supports initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, and strengthening engagement between the public and productive sectors of the economy. He said such models have the potential to be expanded at the national level to support broader energy management goals.
