TEHRAN, Feb. 18 (NIPNA) – Iran's petroleum minister said on Wednesday that deepening ties with Russia could prove highly effective amid current international challenges, highlighting the strategic importance of bilateral cooperation in the global arena.

Mohsen Paknejad, speaking at the official session of the 19th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission, noted that Iran faces a critical juncture in international transformations.

"In such circumstances, expanding interactions and bilateral cooperations can be very effective and impactful," Paknejad said, adding that these efforts hold significant meaning in the present international system.

He expressed gratitude to the Russian side, particularly Sergei Tsivilev, for their diligent pursuits, which have advanced prior understandings into the implementation phase.

Paknejad described this progression to execution as a key achievement of the joint commission.

He outlined ongoing follow-ups on resolutions through commission-related meetings and joint monitoring by Iranian and Russian secretariats throughout the year, with continuous efforts between the 18th and 19th sessions held in the same solar year (May and February).

Under four contracts, seven oil fields are under joint development with Russian firms, Paknejad said, with some reaching production, marking a valuable milestone.
