The six-day event, held from Jan. 14 to Jan. 19 at the Oil Cultural
and Sports Complex in Mahmoudabad and hosted by the National Petrochemical
Company, featured participants from Iran’s four main oil-sector entities: the
National Iranian Oil Company, National Iranian Gas Company, National Iranian
Oil Refining and Distribution Company, and the National Petrochemical Company.
Athletes competed in six disciplines — swimming, chess, futsal, darts,
shooting and table tennis — after qualifying through multiple selection stages.
Officials said the Olympiad was designed to enhance the physical, mental and
psychological health of veterans and employees with disabilities, while also
fostering solidarity among colleagues working in different parts of the
country.
In team standings, the National Petrochemical Company won first place
in chess, followed by two teams from the National Iranian Oil Refining and
Distribution Company. The latter secured first place in swimming and table
tennis, while the National Iranian Oil Company claimed the futsal title. Top
honors in shooting went to a team from the refining and distribution company,
while the National Iranian Oil Company won the darts competition.
Organizers described the event as extending beyond athletic
competition, highlighting its role in encouraging experience-sharing,
strengthening professional ties and reinforcing collective morale within the
oil sector.
The ministry said the Olympiad underscored the capacity of veterans
and people with disabilities to achieve high performance through determination
and perseverance, positioning them as role models for resilience both within
and beyond Iran’s energy industry.
