TEHRAN, Dec 15 (NIPNA)— Iran has reduced fuel and feedstock supplies to some petrochemical complexes to manage energy consumption during colder weather and ensure adequate gas supply for households and commercial users, a senior official at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said on Monday.

Saeed Baghbani, NPC’s director of production control, said the measures were implemented in coordination with the National Iranian Gas Company and based on a prioritisation framework.

“The reduction of fuel and feedstock consumption in the petrochemical sector is carried out following decisions by the Oil Ministry’s fuel management task force and under the authorities granted to it,” Baghbani was quoted as saying by industry news outlet NIPNA.

He said the aim was to manage consumption while minimising damage and containing emergency situations.

Baghbani added that energy imbalance management takes into account the economic viability of output, the impact of products along the value chain, plants’ dependency on energy inputs, effects on domestic supply networks and foreign currency earnings.

“These considerations led to the finalisation last year of a priority list for reducing or halting production at certain complexes,” he said.
