The three-stage Cooper-Joy 30M-28TA compressor, operating at 50,000
rpm and built with a rare geared-integrally design available only in a handful
of advanced countries, was returned to service in November following a six-year
rehabilitation programme.
According to CEO Isa Norouzipoor, the overhaul began in 2019 and
involved extensive 3D scanning, local manufacturing of high-speed rotors and
impellers, and a full redesign of the hydraulic section to meet a pressure of
9.5 kg/cm² and a 2,000 m³/h flow rate. The control system was upgraded to a
Siemens S7-1200 platform, and an integrated set of spare parts for both the
main and backup units was produced domestically.
Norouzipoor said the project eliminated the risk of production outages
and generated direct savings of 650 billion rials, noting that a foreign replacement
would have cost more than 700 billion rials.
Industry officials said the restart represents more than a technical
repair, describing it as evidence of growing local capacity in Iran’s
petrochemical sector despite long-standing international restrictions.
