MAHSHAHR, Dec. 5 (NIPNA) – The head of Iran’s Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC) said sustained growth in the petrochemical sector depends on deeper investment in research and homegrown technologies, urging stronger institutional support for domestic scientists.

Mohammad Kermani, speaking on Thursday during a visit by members of Parliament’s oversight faction for the oil, gas and petrochemical industries to the PRTC’s Mahshahr centre, outlined the company’s recent achievements and called for broader backing of knowledge-based firms active in the sector.

Kermani said Iran’s petrochemical industry has achieved self-sufficiency in key areas such as equipment, catalysts, technologies and chemical materials by relying on local expertise. He cited the company’s mandate to manage, commercialise and economically develop intellectual property related to chemical synthesis, petrochemical catalysts and technologies across the value chain through collaborations with start-ups, universities, research institutes and industrial R&D units.

He added that PRTC is advancing new research approaches, including the use of artificial intelligence, and integrating modern technology frameworks into the petrochemical sector in cooperation with academic institutions and industry partners.

Kermani called for stronger support mechanisms for knowledge-based companies, saying PRTC’s scientific and technical capabilities position it as a strategic backbone for the sector’s innovation and long-term development.
