TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran’s petrochemical industry must embrace innovation and local expertise to ensure its long-term survival and growth, the managing director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said on Monday.

Hassan Abbaszadeh, who also serves as Deputy Petroleum Minister, emphasized the strategic importance of domestic capacity in meeting the sector’s evolving technological and operational demands. “Maximizing the capabilities of Iranian manufacturers for technology transfer, localization, and development of cutting-edge solutions is vital for achieving our planned objectives,” he told NIPNA.

Abbaszadeh stressed that expanding the petrochemical value chain is a core national strategy. “We must move toward self-sufficiency in meeting industry needs by leveraging the existing domestic infrastructure,” he said.

He also highlighted the critical role of petrochemical holding companies in driving sectoral development and called on all investors and stakeholders to take an active and committed role in advancing the industry's growth agenda.

“Capable Iranian producers and manufacturers are urged to elevate their output—both in volume and quality—while focusing on innovation and the application of global knowledge,” Abbaszadeh added.

According to the NPC chief, Iran’s internal capabilities, coupled with access to modern technologies, provide a solid foundation for overcoming development hurdles. “Iranian companies can supply many of the key goods and equipment required by petrochemical complexes, thanks to the robust infrastructure already in place,” he said.
