TEHRAN (NIPNA) – The Bushehr Petrochemical Project, despite facing significant economic and logistical hurdles, has become one of Iran’s most successful examples of domestic project financing, a senior oil official said on Wednesday.

Ahmad Zeraatkar, Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Planning, made the remarks during a site visit to the complex, where he praised the project's resilience and emphasized continued governmental and institutional support as vital to its completion.

“This project has progressed remarkably in recent years, even without access to foreign financing,” Zeraatkar said. “By relying on domestic capabilities and cooperation with aligned international partners, it has transformed into a symbol of national achievement.”

The deputy minister acknowledged some delays and financial repayment challenges but said these were manageable. “The setbacks we’ve encountered are not insurmountable. We are actively working to mitigate the impact of current conditions and keep the project on track.”

Zeraatkar stressed the need for balanced and reciprocal cooperation to resolve the remaining financial issues. “Unilateral concessions are not feasible at this stage. Overcoming these barriers requires coordinated effort from all involved stakeholders.”

He also confirmed that regular meetings are being held to review and update the project's financial strategies. “Through transparency in financial reporting and targeted solutions, we aim to accelerate both debt servicing and overall project progress.”

The Bushehr Petrochemical Project, positioned as a strategic national initiative, continues to receive high-level backing and is seen as a key contributor to Iran’s petrochemical self-sufficiency and economic resilience.
