In a conversation with NIPNA, Homa Atef Yekta highlighted
the company's focus on expanding export destinations and strengthening
bargaining power in global markets.
She stated that a significant portion of Iran's
petrochemical exports currently goes to Asian countries.
She mentioned that one of the main strategic objectives of
the international sector is to expand markets and export destinations, with a
focus on increasing Iran's bargaining power in the global petrochemical market
and avoiding dependence on one or a few specific destinations.
Logistical Challenges and Solutions
Regarding the logistical challenges in market expansion,
Atef Yekta emphasized the critical importance of having solid infrastructure
for sustainable exports. She explained that issues like lack of direct flights
or regular shipping lines with certain countries, especially in Africa, make
exports to these regions difficult.
She further added that the government and relevant
organizations are working on solutions to these challenges. Negotiations are
ongoing to introduce rail transport in addition to sea transport, which would
reduce export costs for companies. Additionally, she highlighted the financial
challenges in Africa, particularly with specific shipping requirements, which
are being addressed through discussions with the Central Bank, local banks, and
international shipping companies.
Collaboration with Foreign Affairs and Diplomatic
Missions
Atef Yekta acknowledged the positive role of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Iran's embassies in promoting exports. She expressed
appreciation for the cooperation of Iranian ambassadors abroad, which has been
crucial in identifying market needs and recognizing the capacities that Iran
can fulfill. This collaboration has greatly facilitated the implementation of
export projects and created favorable conditions for market development.
Synergy with the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development
and Shipping Company
She also mentioned ongoing collaborations with the Ministry
of Roads and Urban Development to address maritime shipping and transport
barriers. Effective negotiations are being held with the National Iranian
Shipping Company and relevant departments to find operational and sustainable
solutions to overcome the challenges.
The Need for Direct Branding in Global Markets
Yekta emphasized the importance of branding in the
petrochemical industry. She noted that while Iranian petrochemical products are
known for their high quality and have significant demand, sanctions and
limitations on direct sales have forced Iran to use alternative methods to sell
products. This has resulted in the Iranian brand being less visible in end
markets, reducing its influence.
Competitive Advantages of Iranian Products
She highlighted that some Iranian products are more
competitive than regional competitors in terms of price, which offers a
significant advantage for customers. Furthermore, there are opportunities for
bartering with countries in the region, which makes Iranian products
attractive.
Welcoming Foreign Investment in Petrochemical Industry
Yekta also spoke about NPC's policies to attract foreign
investment. She stated that the petrochemical industry in Iran welcomes foreign
investment, and during the 29th Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical
Exhibition, initial negotiations were held with several foreign investors.
These projects are expected to be both profitable and aligned with the
development goals of the petrochemical sector. She also mentioned ongoing
discussions with countries like China and Ethiopia at events like Expo 2025
regarding joint plant construction and foreign investment in the industry.
