TEHRAN (NIPNA) – The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on Iran’s Petroleum Minister as part of its ongoing maximum pressure campaign against Tehran, the department announced on Thursday.

According to the statement, Washington has blacklisted Mohsen Paknejad and several Hong Kong-flagged oil tankers in its latest round of measures targeting Iran’s energy sector.

Earlier, on February 25, the U.S. Treasury and State Departments jointly sanctioned multiple individuals and companies linked to Iran’s oil industry. At the time, State Department spokesperson Tommy Bruce stated that the Treasury had sanctioned 16 entities and vessels, while both departments jointly targeted 22 individuals and 13 vessels.

Iranian Oil Terminals Company and Petrorefinery Kangan were also included in the February sanctions, part of Washington’s continued effort to restrict Iran’s oil exports.
