TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The Director General of Market Research of the National Petrochemical Company announced that various projects to convert methanol to propylene are under way throughout the country, adding with the implementation of these projects in different chains of propylene, about 5 million tons of the country's methanol capacity will be allocated to propylene production every year.

Masoud Sayeban, Director General of Market Research of the National Petrochemical Company, told NIPNA about the prospects of implementing propulsion projects, saying: “Petrochemical industry propulsion projects were defined two years ago with a focus on management, planning and development with the strategy of completing and developing the value chain and with the aim of compensating for the shortage of feed required by secondary industries and diversifying the product portfolio, creating value added and job creation.”

He said that propulsion projects are defined in the form of 33 projects, adding: "Currently, 20 projects have received construction permits, some of which are included in the third leap basket of the petrochemical industry, which have been activated by private sector investors."

The official emphasized that with the development of propulsion projects in the main chains of propylene, methanol, ethylene, benzene, urea and butadiene, 20 new petrochemical products will become productive, which, while generating revenues through exports, will reduce petrochemical imports by about 70%.
