TEHRAN (NIPNA) – A member of the Iranian parliament said petrochemicals could increase the value of national investments by creating a value-added chain.

Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi said that the petrochemical industry plays an important role in the development of the country, adding investment in petrochemical projects promise a bright future for the sector.

Development of the industry, besides creating jobs and preventing sale of raw materials, provides feedstock for downstream industries which consequently strengthens national production and economic development in the country.

He said that the industry has achieved major success in various sectors and in strengthening the infrastructure, adding: "Petrochemicals have increased the value of national capital by creating a value chain, so investing in petrochemical projects provide a clear vision of the industry."

The member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly stated: “The development of the petrochemical industry and the completion of the value chain are among the priorities of the development plans of this industry and in this direction the private sector can play a more important role.”

"The growing trend of petrochemicals shows that this industry can play a key role in the development of non-oil exports," he said. “The path of progress and development of the petrochemical industry will never stop, even with the sanctions.”
