TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Hegmataneh Petrochemical Plant, a producer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) of medical and pharmaceutical grade, will join the club of active petrochemical plants in the country once it receives its first feedstock shipment.

The first shipment of Hegmataneh Petrochemical feedstock will enter this petrochemical project within the next few days and it will start trial production cycle of medical grade PVC.

The strategic medical grade granule PVC is one of the most unique petrochemical products in the world and only a few countries have the technology to produce it. With the production of the item at Hegmataneh Petrochemical Plant, Iran will no longer need to import this valuable and practical product which is widely used in the health and medical industries.

Behzad Mohammadi, CEO of the National Petrochemical Company, recently stated that the production of the PVC medical grade at Hegmataneh Petrochemical Plant was of special importance for the country, and said: "Fortunately, with the support of the Ministry of Petroleum and the National Petrochemical Company, the project has been funded and it will become operational as scheduled.”

Hegmataneh Petrochemical Project started operating in 2003 in order to produce medical grade PVC by suspension method with an annual capacity of 45,000 tons (36,000 tons of powder and 9,000 tons of granules) on a 15-hectare land 10 km from the Hamadan-Tehran road. For this purpose, a second-hand unit was purchased from Italy and moved to the project site. The technical knowledge of this unit belongs to the Italian company IGS, which also owns 10% of the stocks of the project, while 57% of its stocks belong to a real person, and the remaining 33% belong to the National Petrochemical Company.

The project entails units of process, utility and offsite, and all the environmental, water, fuel and feed permits have been obtained.
