The Deputy Chairman of the Industry and Mining Commission of the Tehran
Chamber of Commerce, Ahmad Sadeghian, told NIPNA: "Last week we witnessed
the inauguration of one of the important projects of the petrochemical industry
in the west of the country, which shows that the leap of this industry
continues seriously."
Iran launched Miandoab Petchemical plant in northwest of the country. This project was the first of the second leap in the industry which is expected to bring Iran's petrochemcial production capacty to 100 million tons per year from currerntly 66 mt/y.
The official said that downstream industries need to be developed in
order to ensure preventing of crude oil and gas sale.
He underlined the role of the petrochemical industry in the country’s
economy, adding the industry ranked first among other industries in supplying
hard currency for the country.
The official further noted the necessity of completing the value chain
in the industry so that challenges like the sanctions would not hurt the sector
as much.
