Addressing
a ceremony to open Miandoab Petrochemical Plant in the presence of Iranian
President Hassan Rouhani on Thursday, Mr. Zangeneh said the second leap in the Iranian
petrochemical industry would reach fruition by the end of the next Iranian calendar
year to March 2022 which would bring the country’s petrochemical production
capacity to over 100 million tons per year from currently 66 mt/y.
“With
the implementation of the second leap projects of the petrochemical industry,
the production capacity of this industry will be three digits,” he said.
The
official further added that 17 petrochemical projects were to be launched by
the end of the current calendar year, which began on March 20, adding Miandoab
Petrochemical is the first of these 17 projects.
The
Minister of Petroleum added: "Iran’s petrochemical revenue will increase
from $12 billion in 2013 to $25 billion by 2022 and $37b by 2026.”
Regarding
West Ethylene Pipeline, he stated the pipeline project, with a length of 1,660
km, was approved in 2002. This line has started from Assaluyeh, southern Iran, and
Miandoab Petrochemical Complex is the farthest unit of this line in northwest
of the country.
Regarding
the advantages of West Ethylene Pipeline, Zangeneh said: "This line has
the capacity to transfer 2.5 million tons of ethylene per year to underdeveloped
areas of the country and is the longest ethylene transmission pipeline in the world."
Regarding
the second petrochemical leap in Iran, he said: "These 17 projects have
been pursued with high physical progress and will be exploited this year; these
projects will be used as prelude to realization of the third petrochemical leap
in the country.”
