Speaking to
NIPNA, Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh, who is a member of the parliament’s civil
committee, said given the vast oil and gas reserves in Iran, the petrochemical industry’s
development must be prioritized.
He said that the
most important priority of strategic policies for the development of the
country's petrochemical industry is to increase the production capacity of
petrochemicals, and said: “Realization of the sector’s strategies and expansion
of downstream industries must be prioritized. We need to move towards
localization of the industries and manufacturing of equipment.”
The MP noted to
the high production capacity of various petrochemical products, including urea
and methanol, in the country, and added: "Despite the problems and
economic sanctions, the production capacity of various petrochemical products
has increased in recent years, which shows the special position of this
strategic industry in the country."
He stated:
"Petrochemical industry is a major source of income that has the largest
non-oil exports… If we want the country's economy to take a step towards
development, the most appropriate way is to make the leap in the petrochemical
industry as much as possible.”
