TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh said that the country was preparing to enter the third petrochemical leap in its history.

Speaking on Saturday, the official called on all the petrochemical industrialists to visit the upcoming Iran Plast exhibition later in Tehran in September, saying the showcase would display the latest developments in the petrochemical industry.

“We are currently going through the second leap in the industry by which petrochemical production capacity would cross 100 million tons per year,” he said. Iran is currently supplying 66 mt/y of petrochemicals.

By the third production leap, petrochemical production capacity will reach 140 mt/y, the official added.

He further said that massive amount of feedstock would be supplied to feed the leaps from the South Pars gas field and new NGP plants in the country.
