TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Grounds have been broken for construction of Songhor Petrochemical Project in the western province of Kermanshah.

A ceremony was held on Thursday in the presence of the CEO of National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Behzad Mohammadi, along with a number of regional officials to start construction of the polyethylene and polypropylene compound plant in Songhor Industrial Town of Kermanshah.

The plant is being built in order to complete the value chain of ethylene and propylene, and create value-added, jobs and business environment in downstream industries of the city of Songhor.

Access to feedstock through Ilam Petrochemical Complex and the plants fed by West Ethylene Pipeline, domestic consutmpiton markets in Northwest and western provinces of the country, exports to the northwest neighbors (Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia) and the western ones (Turkey, Iraq, and Syria) are some of the reasons of choosing Songhor for implementation of this plant.

The plant will be built with 48,000 tons per year of production capacity on 5 hectares of land and with an investment of roughly 40 million dollars by the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC).

Once operational, the project will need 17,000 tons/year of polyethylene, 28,000 t/y tons of polypropylene, 3,000 t/y of masterbatch and 2,500 t/y of additives as feedstock.

Ethylene compound, propylene compound and masterbatch will be the main products of the plant.
