TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran is likely to witness a new leap in production of petrochemicals once new projects become operational in the sector, an official with the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said.

Speaking to NIPNA, Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh, NPC’s director of projects, said Kaveh Methanol Project was almost complete (99%) and the first phase of Bushehr Petrochemical Plant was also being prepared for startup (96% complete).

He said the first phase of Bushehr Petrochemical Plant would receive gas from phases 6, 7 and 8 of South Pars gas field, sweeten it and send it to ethane recovery unit.

The methanol unit of the plant would also come online by mid-2019, he said, adding the unit would run on methane.

He further said Ilam Petrochemical Project had also gained 93 percent physical progress and Lordegan Plant was 92 percent complete. Both of the units would become operational next Iranian calendar year to March 21.
