Speaking to NIPNA, the vice president of the parliament’s energy
committee, Hossein Amiri Khamkani, said, “Development of the petrochemical industry
over the past year has been eye-catching despite all the difficulties the
country had been facing, including the sanctions.”
He noted achievements of the petrochemical industry this calendar year
which ends on March 20, and said that construction of Andimeshk Petrochemical
Plant and several other projects in a situation where economic pressure is the
case, indicates the non-stop development and progress in the industrial sector,
especially in the petrochemicals industry.
Iran launched construction of Andimeshk Petrochemical Plant last week.
"The petrochemical industry has made some good progress despite
some economic problems, and several projects have come online this year,” the
MP added.
Amiri Khamkani stated: "The petrochemical industry plays an
important role in the foreign currency market in Iran, as a large percentage of
the country's hard currency is supplied by the industry, so we can see how far
this industry is contributing to the enhancement of non-oil exports and
economic growth."
The MP further underlined the need to develop downstream petrochemical
industries in order to complete the value chain, and said: "Increasing
Iran's share in the downstream petrochemical market is essential.”
