TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- Iran's olefin production capacity is planned to increase by at least 20% in the second half of the current Iranian calendar year which began on March 21, a petrochemical official said.

Director of projects at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Ali Mohammad Bossaqzadeh said once ethane production units of South Pars phases 20 and 21 come on-stream by the second half of the current calendar year, the output of olefin facilities will rise 20% in Iran.

Addressing a meeting with petrochemical executives, the official said, "Production optimization could include augmented production capacity and reduced energy consumption and construction of new units with state-of-the-art technologies. Moving in this direction will further the survival of petrochemical units."

Bossaqzadeh, who is also a member of the board of directors of the NPC, said: "In the second half of previous [calendar] year, the supply conditions were secured by connecting the Damavand and Mobin gas pipeline supply line in Assaluyeh region. Connection of Pars Petrochemical Plant to the Mobin Pipeline is also a preventive measure to prevent gas fluctuations of utility suppliers in Assaluyeh region."
