The plant is designed for production of 330,000 tons of light and heavy density polyethylene, and butane valued at $350m annually.
However, the European supplier of certain catalysts to the plant refrained from cooperating with the company which reduced its productivity, said an official with the facility.
Masoud Jafari, director of technical services of the plant, said Iranian engineers have been able to launch the second reactor of the facility by relying on their capabilities which has brought the plant’s productivity to 90% of its nameplate capacity from only 50% previously.
It is now capable of supplying 300,000 tons of light and heavy density polyethylene and 30,000 tons of butane.
Mahabad Petrochemical Plant, located in western Iran, is one of the 12 petrochemical facilities fed by the West Ethylene Pipeline that delivers ethylene from Kavian Ethylene Plant in southern Iran to western provinces.
